ABOUT IDLEWILD
WELCOME TO IDLEWILD
Idlewild is an editorial photography brand that explores the art of visual storytelling through our lens. We use various creative approaches in the exploration and formation of creative projects, editorial publications and more.
Our approach and background within the arts aids in
our ability to shift the perspective of what an editorial project can be, in order to capture the "picture"
that our clients envision.
it is our intention to keep the boundaries of our services
open to produce visions executed with the upmost care
and precision.
We recently collaborated with a poet on their second published book by providing the imagery, perfectly coinciding with their poetic storytelling.
We do encourage you to browse our portfolio to see
some of the work that we have produced for our
own projects and others.

THE INSPIRATION BEHIND OUR NAME
Idlewild's name is inspired by two creative and inspiring sources.
Art is a core basis to all that we do and have always admired the film "Idlewild" starring the phenomenal Hip Hop Duo, Outkast. The cinematic "musical", based loosely around the Great Depression Era, serves as creative inspiring cultural backdrop to 1930s fashion, dance and resilience to thrive.
Although Idlewild, GA was a fictional place, there is an actual Idlewild, Michigan that is known as the "Black Eden of Michigan."
In the early 1900s, Idlewild served as a safe place, the only place that African Americans could go to live, void of racism that drove them away from prior cities. Idlewild, MI was once a thriving community that is now seeking to re-establish themselves, preserve historic landmarks and hopefully attract descendants of past idlewilders and more to return to the community.
